2019 Barolo, del Comune di La Morra, Roberto Voerzio, Piedmont, ItalyThis is a blend of fruit from across Voerzios holdings in the upper reaches of the Comune di La Morra, in crus like La Serra, Fossati and Case Nere. There is immediacy here: lots of floral notes and juicy fruit, all cherries and raspberries and earthy spices. This really is amazingly complex for a Comune wine, but it still finishes on a lithe, refreshing note.

There’s good complexity too for a village wine

The seductive fruit is so typical of this historic estate and I just love the enticing nose of pure cassis fruit and hints of cocoa

The dosage is seven grams per litre and the finish is powerful

therefore a pure and completely unadorned expression of the quality of the fruit

The palate has a subtle verve: rich but not overbearing and its weight is carried with deftness and elegance
